- Clean Out Gutters & Downspouts: As trees and shrubs blossom (or die off in the fall), they drop flowers, seeds, and other organic matter that can build up and clog your gutters and downspouts. It's recommended to clean your gutters and downspouts in the spring and fall.
- Improve Attic Insulation: Properly insulating your attic in the spring will help decrease your summer cooling expenses, as good insulation helps cool air to escape your home. It also helps create an air barrier to prevent airborne irritants, such as dust and pollen, from creeping into your home.
- Check Your Carbon Monoxide Detector: Don't forget to test your carbon monoxide detector this spring! If it is battery-operated, remember to replace the batteries. If you need assistance, please get in touch with the Cedar Rapids Fire Department at 319-286-5200.
- Improve Lawns & Plant Trees: Spring lawn cleanup is worthwhile because it means less maintenance for the rest of the year! Take the time to rake and fertilize the lawn, and remember to give your lawn mower a tune-up! Spring is also the best time to plant trees. Trees Forever is currently taking reservations for low-cost trees available to Cedar Rapids neighbors. Reserved trees will be available for pickup on May 13 at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
