The Parks and Recreation Department has set up a site for disposal of real, unflocked Christmas trees. Trees are already being accepted at Prairie Park Fishery, 2125 Otis Road SE. (The Bertram Road site is closed this year due to a bridge project.) Trees dropped off at Prairie Park will be used for fish habitat and trail surfacing. The site is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. through January 15. Signs indicating the drop-off area are posted.
Curbside collection for real, unflocked trees will begin Tuesday, January 3 and end Friday, January 27. Whole trees may be placed at the collection area and set at least three feet from the collection carts. Tree collections may not occur on the resident’s normal collection day and the trees must be prepared for pick up following the requirements listed below. Trees may also be placed in the YARDY cart for collection, but the lid must be closed. Trees need to be at curb height; those placed on top of snowbanks will not be picked up. To prepare trees for curbside collection or recycling, remove all tinsel, ornaments, decorations, stands, watering packets, tree wrap, and netting. Do not place trees in plastic bags. Flocked trees, wreaths and garland cannot be recycled. |
