Lt Tobey Harrison gave an update on a shooting at the intersection of 8th Avenue and 18th Street of July 2nd in the afternoon. There was a bullet that went into a home in the area, luckily no one was injured. This was an isolated incident with the two parties passing through the neighborhood. Please make sure if you see anything suspicious, please call the non-emergency line at 286-5491 and for emergencies call 911. Together we can keep CANA safe!
Attached you will find Lt Harrison’s printout of the calls for service along with the City of Cedar Rapids’ monthly newsletter. Dominic Roberts gave an update on the city’s plan for flood protection and the Army Corps of Engineer’s recommendations for what areas need to have the protection first and foremost. One of those areas is Quaker Oats and Cargill due to their economic impact on our city. If you would like more information, there will be more public meetings coming up at the end of August and beginning of September. You can also go to the City’s website at www.cityofcr.com/floodcontrol Treasurer’s Report: $291.57 current balance. Prior to pancake breakfast it was 710.55. Pancake breakfast raised $251.00. That brought us to a balance of 961.55. The current total reflects outstanding reimbursements from the city which have been submitted for this last fiscal year. one check for 303.50 for group insurance and mulch, the second reimbursement is for 366.48 for the pancake breakfast supplies. As a workplan for the year, of the $10,000 fund the city has for us, we use a total 2847.70. This included the $2000 that went toward the cement pads for benches in Cleveland Park. Finally, there is a pending $1320 that should fall in last fiscal year for trash receptacles in Cleveland park. This would bring total spent for Fiscal year 2018 to 4167.7. As we plan for next year, if there are any projects that are possible, we can get estimates and submit them for reimbursement ahead of the project, such as the slabs and trash cans. We discussed the pancake breakfast. We did have a higher attendance this year and we did raise more money. We did tithe and donate some of the money raised to the Central Church of Christ. We are grateful for our relationship that we have with them and appreciate the use of their facility for our meetings and events. George Heeren will be having heart surgery in the next couple of weeks, please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. We will be having our annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 7th. We will holding the event from 6:00-8:00 at Cleveland Park in the pavilion. Hy-Vee will provide hot dogs, buns, and chips. Please bring a side dish to share with everyone if you plan on attending. This will allow us to sample the delicious recipes that our neighbors make and also foster a sense of fellowship and community. The more food the better! Dominic Roberts provided CANA with the signs that will be going up at our neighborhood Hy-Vee store. We provided a 100 word narrative on the template and Hy-Vee is planning on adding their own human interest stories that reflect the history of the Hy-Vee store in our neighborhood. Keep an eye out at your neighborhood Hy-Vee store for the sign. We do have a sign up at the pavilion at Cleveland Park already. The Cedar Rapids Municipal Band will be playing at Cleveland Elementary on Wednesday, July 18th at 7:30. Please try to attend. As always, please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. |
