Thank you to all of our neighbors and friends for joining us at Cleveland Park this morning for our CANA Easter Egg Hunt 🐰🐣 We were happy to host about 80 children today to enjoy some fun outside with special prizes at the end of the hunt! We would like to extend a very special thank you to our CANA Treasurer, Amy L Hall Haney, for organizing the hunt. Thank you to our neighbors for joining us last night for dinner with Mayor Tiffany O'Donnell. Our evening was filled with great food, great conversation, and great company!
Thank you to Mayor Tiffany for a delicious meal, and thank you to all of our neighbors for bringing sides, drinks, and desserts to share. We would also like to thank Jimmy, Dan, and the rest of our friends at Johnson Avenue HyVee for their contributions to the event. An extra special thank you to our friends at Central Church of Christ and CANA Treasurer, Amy, for setting up and making the space welcoming for everyone. At our February CANA meeting, neighbors expressed concern about the excessive speeding on 8th Ave SW between 18th St SW and 15th St SW near Cleveland Park. City officials at the meeting agreed to follow up with a speed study to review. The City implemented a speed study in the neighborhood and the report has been published for neighbors. A statement from City officials explains the study further:
"The radar units collected data this week on 8th Ave SW near Cleveland Park March 11 - 14. One key measure examined in traffic engineering is known as the 85th percentile speed. This is the speed at which 85 percent of traffic is traveling at or below. Ideally, the 85th percentile speed matches the posted speed limit, but results within 5 MPH are considered acceptable. The study found the roadway speeds to fall within this range. Another speed study can be completed this summer when the park is experiencing more use if they would like. The data for this study would indicate this is a normally functioning roadway. These types of results are very typical for a 30 MPH roadway. We complete 50+ speeds studies per year, and most have 85th percentile speeds between 2 – 6 MPH over the posted speed limit." The City will not be taking any action further, like installing speed bumps or curb extensions, at this time. If neighbors would like the speed study to be reproduced during the busier months at Cleveland Park, City officials are able to do this in the warmer weather months to review trends and risks on the roadway. Thank you to Betsy Borchardt for assisting CANA with this speed study and advocating for our CANA neighbors concerns with the City.
