Currently there is $367.60 in our account with no outstanding checks or bills. Gary Keller (treasurer) gave an update about our 501(c)3 status. We are still waiting on this being assigned and will hopefully be getting word on this within the next month or so. There were some additional questions that the IRS had and will be sending a questionnaire for us to fill out and return it to them as soon as possible.
Lt Tobey Harrison handed out the Calls for Service information. Sheet is attached in minutes.
Principal Denise Pape was in attendance and we approached her about working with the PTA and getting more families involved. She expressed that the current PTA board is having problems recruiting new parents to get involved. We discussed establishing a relationship and extending some of our services to the PTA to help with their events.
CANA will be attending the next PTA meeting that will be taking place on Tuesday, March 7 th at 6:30 at Cleveland School in the art room upstairs.
Ideas were discussed for events this year. The following events were suggested:
(The dates below are tentative and are not set)
May 20 th : Annual Pancake Breakfast and Cereal Drive
June 24 th : Classic Car Show and Band
July 16 th : Garden Party with Afternoon Tea that showcases the Butterfly Garden in Cleveland Park
August 1 st : National Night Out
If you are interested in volunteering for any of these events, please feel free to reach out and let us know. If you have a special talent that you can add to these events, please let us know.
We did have a suggestion from a neighbor of doing a butterfly garden on the opposite end of Cleveland Park on the corner of 15 th Street and 1 st Avenue, the only issue we have this is, there is not water access on this end of the park and water would have to be hauled across the park on a regular basis.
We also had a suggestion for “Little Libraries” but there are issues with building permits and requirement for the dimensions. Also there were questions about supplying books as well as maintenance of the libraries. Principal Pape suggested we visit with Amy Proctor from Cleveland School about possibly partnering with her but also expressed that she had some of the same barriers. Will follow.
Attached in this email you will also find a letter from the City of Cedar Rapids regarding the Cedar Rapids Paving for Progress Roadway Improvement Project along with the calls for service from Lt Harrison.
