There will be multiple National Night Out events in the area, including one just up the street at Hillside Wesleyan Church! You can learn more on their Facebook event via the link below. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live. This year, National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, August 2. This will be the 39th anniversary for National Night Out and the 23rd anniversary for Cedar Rapids’ participation in National Night Out activities. CANA President George Cathy Heeren will be hosting National Night Out at Cleveland Park on behalf of Cleveland Area Neighborhood Association - Cedar Rapids, Iowa! Join us for snacks, bottled water, and games. Please bring a dish to share.
Help prevent crime in the community by getting involved. National Night Out is a great way to reinforce the relationship with neighbors and local police officers by coming together, joining forces, and taking a stand against crime. Lock your doors, turn on your front porch light, and spend the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement. The Cedar Rapids Police Department officers will stop at each community event. We hope to see you there! Heat is one of the leading weather-related killers in the United States, resulting in hundreds of fatalities each year. Major construction on the Chandler Street loop is completed, including placement of roadway and driveway pavements. Since current temperatures exceed recommended limits for placing sod, disturbed areas behind the new curb lines have purposely been left low to reduce erosion onto the new pavements. The City will monitor the project area until finish grading and sod placement can start, typically mid-to-late August. If erosion becomes a problem, temporary erosion control measures will be placed where needed.
Remaining work includes restoring landscape features at a few driveways and installation of traffic signs. As always, if you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the project team.
