Weather permitting, construction is scheduled to begin soon on Chandler Street SW and 20th Street. This is Phase 2 of the project, with Phase 1 completed last year.
Traffic impacts this summer will include:
- Lane reductions, intersection closures for utility work
- Phased full closures for pavement replacement
- Lane reductions on 16th Avenue for sidewalk work
- Access maintained to high school during school year
Initial work will include water main installation beginning at the 10th Avenue and Chandler Street intersection and progressing toward the hill, with a travel lane open. Residents will always have access either from 10th Avenue or 16th Avenue, depending on construction staging.
When the school year ends in early June, the intersection of Chandler Street and 20th Street at the Jefferson High School entrance will be fully closed. All work in this area, including utilities and pavement construction, will then be completed so the school entrance can reopen in time for the 2021-2022 school year. Work at the 20th Street and 16th Avenue intersection will also be underway during this time. Residents will have access from 10th Avenue.
We anticipate construction will require two years. Our goal is to have all work on 20th Street, plus underground work on the entire project area, completed by the end of the 2021 construction season. The road will re-open for the winter.
