This month’s meeting was held at Hy-Vee due to Cleveland School being closed for Spring Break.
Lt Tobey Harrison discussed calls for service and a property on 15 th Street SW that was discussed. Lt Harrison encouraged the neighborhood to get a hold of Building Services Division to have someone from the department come and speak about the process for nuisance properties. The two names that were brought up to reach out to were John Riggs or Kevin Ciabatti. We will try to get either one of those gentlemen at our meeting in April.
The current balance in the checking account is $367.60. There are no outstanding bills. We are still waiting for reimbursement from the city. We are also still waiting for word on getting our 501(c)3.
We are looking at possibly doing an omelet breakfast along with the pancake breakfast as a fundraising opportunity. As you can see with the above amount listed, our working capital is minimal. Often times Gary Keller and George Heeren will purchase items for our events and have to wait for reimbursement from the city. This can take several weeks or even several months. We feel that doing a fundraiser will allow us to have a stronger bank account so that we are able to fund activities easier. The Shriners do an omelet breakfast and this is an excellent fundraising opportunity for them. We would like to do something similar to this.
We are going to be turning in a work plan for the FY18. The items that we are going to be adding on to this work plan will be a Garden Party in July that will showcase the butterfly garden, our annual National Night Out, movies in the park during the summer months, and a Harvest Dinner in October.
The last couple of years we had mentioned putting up additional benches in Cleveland Park, which run $1,000 each. That includes the bench as well as the concrete pad that it will rest on. We are going to be getting three benches and this will be directly billed to the city of Cedar Rapids. We will also be looking at adding more trees in the park to replace the ones that were lost in a storm. We do have a neighbor who is currently in the process of donating five evergreen trees. We may be looking at doing some things for Haskell Park on Johnson Avenue as well for the beautification.
Nic Roberts gave an update on the status of the Walking History Tour as well. We are still in the process of getting the video commentary from Mark Stoffer-Hunter as well as some human interest stories. As soon as we have the video content, you will be seeing more signs going up around the neighborhood. Keep a look out for them!
